Three labels. One genus. A small bed that will not forgive the wrong height. Types guides exist for that pause at the nursery table — before money leaves your pocket.

Each page sorts the forms people actually meet: compact versus tall, early versus late colour, tidy versus wild. The point is a shorter shortlist you can defend when you get home, not a claim that every cultivar on earth is listed. Leaf colour is easy to fall for; mature size and bloom timing are what usually decide whether the plant still fits in three years.

Hardiness, wet winters, and pots still matter as much as the prettiest tag. When the site is the real problem, filter from the encyclopedia first, then come back here to choose inside the name. If you already own the plant, you probably want a how-to-grow note more than another comparison — the A–Z list below is for choosing, not for aftercare.
