Choose delphiniums by height and life

Black Knight Group and Faust sit with the tall class. Summer Nights and Mini Stars sit with compact types. Guardian Blue is a mid hybrid. Height on the tag is the shop filter, then color.

Sun, rich drained soil, slugs, and toxic sap stay the same across types unless a specialist tag says otherwise. This page only sorts height and life. Care stays on the grow page. Stakes stay on the staking page.

Belladonna types are sold as looser, branching spikes, shorter than classic elatum towers. They are still Delphinium, still toxic, still want sun and drain. They are not a separate watering system. Read the inches.

Wrong delphinium buys that look like a types page

Annual larkspur as a perennial delphinium: Consolida (often sold as larkspur) is a different genus and a one-season plant. Confirm Delphinium on the Latin.

Dwarf Larkspur as a Pacific tower: Dwarf Larkspur is Delphinium tricorne, an early woodland species. It is not a 6-foot border spike and not annual Consolida.

A compact series as a no-care plant: Magic Fountain still wants sun, rich drain, slugs watched, and gloves. Shorter is not tougher against winter wet.

Color-series names as a moisture rule: Galahad, Black Knight, and similar names are height-plus-color menus inside the tall class, not a new soil recipe.

A florist spike as a landscape contract: cut-flower bunches do not tell you life span. Pacific hybrids are often short-lived in the ground too.

A types page is not a care override. Every group below still wants full sun, fertile moist drain, and gloves unless a woodland species tag says otherwise. Do not shop a 6-foot type for a 12-inch trough, and do not shop a woodland species for a hot open border.

Shop photos of green leaves do not show the loaded spike. Ask for a mature height. Leave with one sentence: tall, compact, or species — then color.
