Not fava — and not castor bean or hyacinth bean
Fava (broad bean) is Vicia faba, a cool-season crop timed like peas. It is not Phaseolus care. Castor bean is toxic Ricinus, not a food bean. Hyacinth bean (Lablab) and yard-long bean (Vigna) are other legumes with different heat and harvest rules.
Are fava beans the same as green beans?
No. Favas are Vicia, sown in cool weather. Garden green beans are warm-season Phaseolus.
If flowers are dropping in a heat wave, keep water even and wait for cooler nights.

Do beans come back next year?
Common garden beans are tender annuals. Frost ends the crop. Save dry seed only from open-pollinated types if you want to sow again.
What chews holes in bean leaves?
Mexican bean beetles chew the leaves. Pick the beetles off by hand when you see them, and keep old plants out of the bed after frost.
Do beans need pruning?
Bush beans do not need a wood prune. If a pole vine reaches the top of the trellis and tangles, pinch the tip so energy stays in pods.
